Queen of the Night

“Epiphyllum Oxypetalum”

Fabric, embroidery, paint

40”x18”

Through a combination of rich fabrics stitched together, intricate beadwork, delicate embroidery, and vibrant paint, I strive to create a mood of the underworld magic that lies beneath the literal.

The Queen of the Night is a nocturnal cactus species distinguished by its large, fragrant white flowers that bloom under moonlight and wilt at dawn's first blush. This flower's rarity stems from its brief blooming period, lasting only a few hours. Its ephemeral nature renders the bloom rich in symbolism, conveying the message, 'I appreciate beauty in the moment, value the rare, and honor the present.' This piece was crafted to evoke the essence of a sultry summer night by a serene pond, frogs singing their magical songs.
